Hip Dysplasia Screening: PennHIP & OFA

At Vilonia Animal Clinic, we offer advanced hip screening options to help detect and manage hip dysplasia in dogs—an inherited condition that can lead to pain and mobility issues. We provide two industry-trusted screening methods:

  • PennHIP (Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program): This method uses specialized radiographs to measure hip joint laxity, making it one of the most accurate tools for early detection of hip dysplasia—even in puppies as young as 16 weeks. PennHIP results can guide breeding decisions and early intervention plans.
  • OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals): The OFA method evaluates hip conformation through a standardized radiograph taken at 2 years of age or older. It provides a widely recognized certification of joint health for breeding and general assessment.

Our team will help determine the best screening option based on your pet’s age, breed, and health goals.
