Dentistry

At  Vilonia Animal Clinic we believe in the importance of oral hygiene for your pet. Because your pet will be under general anesthesia for the dental procedure, and because dental disease can cause damage to vital organs, we recommend the same pre-surgical blood tests that are recommended for all surgery patients.

Surgery 3

Periodontal disease is a common health problem affecting over 75% of dogs and cats over the age of three.

Left untreated, this can lead to:

  • Halitosis (Bad Breath)
  • Pain
  • Tooth decay or loss
  • Metabolic disease (kidney and liver problems)

Good oral health improves your pet’s well-being, and can add years to your pet’s life.

Common signs of periodontal disease:

  • Halitosis (Bad Breath)
  • Tartar and Calculus (yellow-brown discoloration on tooth)
  • Difficulty eating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased drooling
  • Pawing at the mouth
  • Loose or missing teeth
  • Gingivitis (red, swollen, or bleeding gums)

Is your pet showing signs of dental disease? If you would like more information on how we can help you improve your pet’s dental health, please call us at 501-796-8400 and ask to speak to one of our Dental Technicians.

All dental cleanings include an ultrasonic scaling, high speed polishing and barrier sealant. We can also perform extractions and more advanced oral surgery if needed. If you would like to see exactly what takes place during a routine dental cleaning at Vilonia Animal Clinic, please take the time to view our Behind The Scenes Dental Presentation slide show.
